Natural Cough Syrup

This remedy is good for clearing out the lungs and bronchials and it also disperses itself throughout the entire body with great benefit.

Formula:

Chop 2 large onions. Place into a pan with herb of your choice*, and cover with honey (raw is best) so that the honey is at least one half inch above the onions in the pan. LOW heat (under 130 degrees, which is lower than simmer) for several hours in a double boiler.

*Licorice root, horehound and wild cherry bark are natural expectorant and demulcent herbs and are used to aid in breaking up phlegm and discharging it. Use one ounce of herb for each pint of honey used.

Strain and press out the liquid and use it as a cough syrup.

Dosage: 1 teaspoon every 15-30 minutes as needed.

Note: If a sore throat and coughing are caused by the sinuses draining, you can grate some horseradish root into small pieces and mix into apple cider vinegar (the raw, unfiltered type), mixing into a thick paste. A blender works well for this. Take 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon and chew it well, then swallow. Do this three or more times a day, increasing the amount a little each 3-4 days.
